What's Included in the A2 Course

A2 Exam Curriculum

Everyday situations, common grammar structures (past tense, modal verbs, prepositions), and A2-format reading and listening texts from real exam papers.

Full Mock Exams

Timed Goethe / telc A2 mock papers with section-by-section written feedback — you'll know exactly where to improve before exam day.

Frequently Asked Questions — A2

Yes — if you already have A1 knowledge or equivalent, Bobby will assess your level in the free 15-minute call and place you directly into the A2 batch. The assessment is brief and conversational, not a formal test.
Some Ausbildung programmes accept A2, particularly in sectors like agriculture, hospitality, and some trade programmes. However, most Ausbildung positions now require B1 minimum. Bobby will advise you on your specific field's requirements and whether it's worth going straight for B1.
Yes — our A2 course is designed to transition seamlessly into the B1 batch. Students who complete A2 with us are well-prepared to join B1 without a gap or refresher course.
Batches are kept small to ensure every student gets speaking time and individual attention. Bobby keeps group sizes capped — you will not be in a large webinar-style class where you cannot speak or ask questions.

The Goethe / telc A2 Exam — Format & What to Expect

A2 builds on A1 — longer texts, more complex listening, short formal writing, and more confident conversation.

Lesen (Reading)

3–4 tasks. Everyday texts — notices, short emails, advertisements, simple articles. Tests whether you can extract key information from written everyday German. Time: approximately 25 minutes.

Hören (Listening)

3–4 tasks. Short conversations, announcements, phone messages, played twice. Tests comprehension of spoken everyday German at A2 pace. Time: approximately 20 minutes.

Schreiben (Writing)

1–2 tasks. Write a short structured message — reply to an email, write a note, fill in a form. Requires correct use of A2 grammar and appropriate greeting / sign-off format. Time: approximately 20 minutes.

Sprechen (Speaking)

3 tasks — introduce yourself and give more detail, describe a picture or situation, and have a short dialogue. Graded on fluency, vocabulary range, and accuracy at A2 level.

Both the Goethe-Zertifikat A2 and telc Deutsch A2 test the same CEFR A2 standard and are accepted for Ausbildung applications that require A2. Exam centres across India: Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Pune.

How to Register for the A2 Exam in India

1

Choose: Goethe A2 or telc A2

Both are equally valid for Ausbildung applications. telc A2 tends to have more frequent exam dates at a wider network of centres. Goethe A2 is slightly more prestigious for visa purposes. Bobby will advise based on your specific situation.

2

Check dates and register

Visit goethe.de/india or telc.net for upcoming exam schedules at centres near you. Registration typically closes 4–6 weeks before the exam date. Delhi and Mumbai slots fill quickly.

3

Exam fees (approximate)

Goethe A2: approximately INR 8,000–10,000. telc A2: approximately INR 6,000–8,000. Fees vary by centre — check the official website for current pricing before registering.

4

Start coaching 3 months before your target exam date

If you already have A1 knowledge, 3 months is a realistic timeline to be exam-ready for A2. Book your free assessment call to confirm your level and plan your batch start date.

Common A2 Mistakes Indian Students Make

Patterns Bobby sees repeatedly after 10+ years of coaching — every one is addressed directly in the A2 course.

Confusing Perfekt and Präteritum

A2 requires Perfekt for most spoken and written contexts (with key exceptions). Students who haven't drilled the Perfekt forms of irregular verbs lose marks on both writing and speaking tasks.

Ignoring the Schreiben format

The writing task has a specific format — appropriate greeting, structured body, correct sign-off. Students who write grammatically good German but in the wrong format still lose marks. We practise this from week one.

Freezing in the Sprechen section

Speaking with an examiner or partner feels different from classroom practice. We simulate exam conditions from Month 2 onwards so students are comfortable and confident, not surprised on exam day.

Under-practising Hören

Listening comprehension is harder when you are used to Indian accents. We use authentic Goethe and telc audio from the start — not simplified recordings — so the exam audio sounds familiar, not foreign.

You need to pass each section separately at 60% and achieve an overall pass. The Goethe A2 and telc A2 both follow this section-based pass criterion — you cannot compensate a weak section with a strong one. Our mock exams are designed to identify and fix weak sections before exam day.
A2 requires more vocabulary (approximately 700–1,000 words vs 500 at A1), more complex grammar (past tense, modal verbs, two-way prepositions, separable verbs), longer reading texts, and more structured writing. The speaking tasks also require more than basic self-introduction — you need to describe, respond, and interact.
A2 alone is generally not sufficient for employment visas — most work and Ausbildung visas require B1 minimum. However, some specific sectors (agriculture, hospitality, certain care roles) accept A2. Bobby will advise on your specific employer or visa requirement during the free assessment call.
