What's Included in the B1 Course

B1 Exam Curriculum

Full coverage of the Goethe-B1 and telc-B1 formats — identical section types, mark schemes, and time constraints as the real exam.

Daily Speaking Drills

Sprechen is where most students lose marks at B1. Structured partner sessions, opinion expressions, and role-plays in every class.

Multiple Mock Exams

3–4 full timed mock papers with detailed written feedback on every answer — so you enter the exam having already practised under real conditions.

Schreiben Coaching

The B1 writing section (formal letters, emails) is heavily weighted. Bobby marks your writing drafts with written corrections and model answers.

Taught by a Germany Graduate

Bobby holds an MBA from a German university and spent nearly a decade in Germany. B1 is the level he uses in daily life — you learn from someone who has lived it.

WhatsApp Doubt Support

B1 grammar is complex. Bobby responds to WhatsApp questions the same day, Mon–Sat — no question goes unanswered between classes.

Your B1 Journey

A structured 4–6 month path to B1 — from grammar foundations to mock exams and exam-day confidence.

Months 1–2 — Grammar & Vocabulary

Frequently Asked Questions — B1

The Goethe-Institut estimates 350–400 total study hours to reach B1 from zero (working through A1 and A2). Students who join our B1 course having already completed A2 typically pass in 4–6 months. We can advise on your specific timeline during the free assessment call.
Both are equally accepted for Ausbildung, citizenship, and visa applications. The main differences are in exam format and availability of exam centres near you. Bobby will advise you on which is better for your specific situation and where you can book an exam in your city.
Yes — B1 is the minimum German language requirement for German citizenship (Einbürgerung). A Goethe-B1 or telc-B1 certificate is the standard accepted proof. The German Nationality Act (Staatsangehörigkeitsgesetz) sets B1 as the benchmark.
Mock results are a diagnostic tool, not a verdict. Bobby analyses every lost mark section-by-section and the next set of classes targets exactly those weak areas. Most students improve significantly from their first to their third mock exam.
You can join B1 directly if you already have solid A2-level German. Bobby will assess your current level in the free call. If you're not yet at A2, we will recommend the right starting level so you progress steadily without gaps.

The Goethe / telc B1 Exam — Format & What to Expect

B1 is the most-requested level in India — required for Ausbildung, German citizenship, and the job seeker visa. The exam is more demanding than A-levels: longer texts, complex listening, structured essay writing, and a full speaking interaction.

Lesen (Reading)

5 tasks. Longer texts including articles, notices, and correspondence. Tests the ability to understand main ideas, specific information, and implied meaning in everyday and semi-formal texts. Time: approximately 65 minutes.

Hören (Listening)

4 tasks. Conversations, radio segments, phone messages, and instructions at natural native speed. Tests whether you can follow spoken German across a range of everyday situations. Time: approximately 40 minutes.

Schreiben (Writing)

2 tasks. Write a structured letter or email (formal or semi-formal) and fill in a form. The Schreiben section has a specific format — introduction, reason for writing, requests, closing — that must be followed to score well. Time: approximately 30 minutes.

Sprechen (Speaking)

3 tasks with a partner: plan something together, present a topic with visuals, and give and respond to feedback. This is the section most students find hardest — and the one we spend the most class time on.

The Goethe-Zertifikat B1 and telc Deutsch B1 both satisfy German embassy and Ausbildung requirements. For citizenship applications, the Goethe B1 is most commonly requested. For Ausbildung, both are accepted — confirm with your employer or placement consultant. Exam centres across India: Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Pune.

How to Register for the B1 Exam in India

1

Confirm your requirement — Goethe B1 or telc B1?

For German citizenship (Einbürgerung), the Goethe-Zertifikat B1 is most commonly required. For Ausbildung visas, both are generally accepted — check your employer's or consultancy's specific requirement. Bobby will confirm which exam best suits your goal.

2

Check exam dates and register early

B1 exam slots at Goethe-Institut India fill several months in advance, especially in Delhi. Visit goethe.de/india or telc.net and register as soon as you have a target date. Registration closes 4–6 weeks before the exam.

3

Exam fees (approximate)

Goethe B1: approximately INR 12,000–15,000. telc B1: approximately INR 9,000–12,000. Fees vary by centre and year — verify on the official website before registering. Factor in exam fees when planning your timeline.

4

Plan 4–6 months of coaching before exam day

Starting from A2 level, B1 typically takes 4–6 months of structured coaching with regular self-study. Book your free 15-minute assessment — Bobby will assess your current level, confirm a realistic exam date, and explain batch availability.

Common B1 Mistakes Indian Students Make

B1 is where the exam gets serious. These are the patterns Bobby sees most often — and why the B1 course is built the way it is.

Schreiben without a structure

The B1 writing task requires a specific letter or email format — Betreff (subject), greeting, reason for writing, main content, requests or questions, closing. Students who write good German in the wrong structure lose significant marks.

Sprechen — not listening to the partner

The B1 speaking section requires genuine interaction — listening, responding, and building on what your partner says. Students who prepare a monologue and ignore the interactive nature of the task lose marks even with good vocabulary.

Weak Konjunktiv II usage

B1 requires conditional sentences (ich würde, könnte, sollte) for polite requests, suggestions, and hypotheticals. Students who avoid this structure sound stilted and below B1 level in speaking and writing.

Hören at native speed

B1 listening audio is at authentic conversational pace, not slowed down. Indian students who have only practised with textbook audio find exam recordings unexpectedly fast. We use Goethe and telc exam audio from Month 1.

B1 is the minimum for most Ausbildung (vocational training) programmes and the German job seeker visa (Chancenkarte). For skilled employment in healthcare, IT, or engineering, employers typically expect B2. For unskilled or semi-skilled roles, B1 is generally sufficient. Bobby will advise on your specific field and employer requirements.
Both test CEFR B1 and are accepted by German authorities. The Goethe-Zertifikat B1 is more widely recognised internationally and most commonly requested for citizenship applications. telc B1 has more exam centres and dates across India. The exam format and difficulty are comparable — our coaching prepares you for both.
Goethe and telc certificates do not expire — they are valid permanently. However, some German embassies and employers prefer certificates issued within the last 2 years. If your certificate is older, check with your specific visa authority or employer before applying.
